This album showcased landscapes of the Rolwaling-Khumbu region. The photos were taken between 29 Oct to 14 Nov 2010.
Rolwaling is the East-West Valley below Gauri Shankar (7,145m) and just south of Tibetan border. It has a unique environment and is exceptionally rich in bio-diversity which makes this region one of the finest trekking destinations in Nepal. The region consists of Tamang settlements and offers stunning view of the mid-eastern range of the Himalayas; such as Pharchamo Peak (6,187m) , Ramdung (5,925m) and Dorje Lakpa.
Rolwaling Khumbu trek starts from Dolakha, near Charikot, an 8-hour drive (150 km east) from Kathmandu and passes through many rural villages with the different ethnic communities. Our itinerary took us through villages in Singati, Jagat, Simigaon, Kyalche-Dungun, Bedding (last permanent settlement on this trek) and Na (the summer settlement. The highest altitude reached in the trek). The highlight of the Rolwaling Trek is Tso Rolpa Glacier Lake (4,540m), the largest Glacier Lake in Nepal.
The most rewarding take-away from this trek is that we are treated to unspoilt scenaries, and most importantly, got close and personal with the villagers through stay at their homes.
